The Glance mark on your Dock, and profiles that look back

Bandicot and Bandicot Beta wear the Glance mark, and each profile is now a small creature with its own body, its own eyes and its own habits.

Design

Bandicot's app icon is now the Glance mark: two white eyes of different heights on a black squircle. Bandicot Beta has three eyes, each a different height, so you can tell the two apps apart in the Dock at a glance.

Profiles come alive

Each profile is now a creature drawn from the same idea: a dark vinyl body and two to five white eyes, never two the same size. Bodies range from squircles, ghosts and capsules to beans, drops, buns, pears and mochi, with ears, cat ears, bunny ears, horns, a sprout, a tuft or an antenna, and some have a smile, a fang, little arms or feet. Some keep the mark's solid eyes; others have round, oval or almond eyes with pupils, and a few wear a second row of small eyes above the first.

Their pupils follow your pointer, each eye from where it sits, so they cross a little when you come close. Now and then one blinks, winks, hops, waves, sneezes, turns round, takes a roll call of its eyes or glances at its neighbour. Leave them alone for half a minute and they get drowsy, then fall asleep one by one; move and they wake with a start.

Picking and naming

Hover a creature and it hops, opens its eyes wide and waves. Pick it and it smiles with its whole face and jumps for joy while the others turn to watch. When you add a profile, the creatures read the name as you type it, and the one you chose nods along; bring a fresh litter with Meet others.

The same creature is your profile's picture in the sidebar and around the app, and a profile you use across several places or late at night grows an extra eye or sleepier lids. With reduced motion turned on they hold still.
